Ordinary membership of the RNMI is open to all commissioned officers and ex officers of the Canadian Armed Forces, regular or reserve, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Coast Guard Service, and their equivalents in Commonwealth and Allied Forces, and the Merchant Marine. In addition, the RNMI will consider for associate members any deserving individual of good character who has served in the aforementioned forces as other than a commissioned officer, or any other individual who holds the Canadian Armed Forces in high esteem and who is deemed worthy. Associate members have no voting power, nor may they hold office. However, after two years of continuing membership, they may, on approval, be granted ordinary membership.
Individuals seeking to become a member of the RNMI must fill out a membership application (see link below for application form), have it recommended and signed by an existing RNMI member, and forward it to RNMI at the address on the application form. If you do not know anyone who is currently a member, you should telephone the Recruitment Officer, LCdr (USN) Bob Hoover at 905-937-9356, and introduce yourself.
Why should I join the RNMI?
The Institute is an organization of interest to a wide range of citizens who care about military history, national security and national defence. As a group we support local military reserves and cadet organizations as well as voicing our concerns about local security, terrorism, worldwide peacekeeping and readiness of our regular forces. If you are concerned about Canada, and want to participate in a more meaningful way on the key military questions facing our country, you should become a member of the Royal Niagara Military Institute.
Members of the Institute have the following benefits:
Opportunity to attend meetings, which normally include interesting and timely lectures,
Monthly newsletter (except June, July and August),
Opportunity to increase your awareness of military issues affecting Canada's security and international relations,
Opportunity to use facilities of more than 100 affiliated organizations worldwide,
Participation in all RNMI social events, including a Mess Dinner, Dining In Nights, a Garden Party, and a traditional New Year's Levee, and
International fellowship.
